@jac@404brain.boo Sorry - I wasn't suggesting for a minute that I have ADHD although I remember years ago, I attended some external consultant's personality profiling type workshop where we all had to describe ourselves and endlessly post yellow Post-It's on a whiteboard. Excruciating, lasted all day, tedious and not my thing at all.

I was surprised when everyone got their certificates and final verdict.

I was told I was a 'starter not a finisher'. I had never heard the term before but subsequently I often reflected back on this and thought 'God that was really accurate. That's exactly what I am'.

Building #LittleFedi from source really stressed by tiny 1CPU/1GB server. Maybe not so surprising but I am very grateful for the availability of pre-built binaries for all platforms.

@andycarolan@social.lol In the bleak, industrial North, you get Booths supermarkets as compensation :-)

@jac@404brain.boo Golly. That sounds unerringly like me.

@Axtons_staircases@mstdn.co.uk That's better. I have missed your staircase updates and am always blown away by your workmanship !

I simply love the fact that one day @jac@404brain.boo installs #LittleFedi (a small lightweight, fast ActivityPub server) and then the next day, she suddenly decides to scratch another itch by investigating the functionality and awesome power of #Emacs (Eight Megs and Constantly Swapping, an operating system disguised as a text editor etc) !

LittleFedi updated to 26.10.13. The version is displayed in the GUI under 'Admin - Overview' or from the command line.

Goodness. New releases of snac2 and LittleFedi on the same day. Just need GoToSocial for the hat-trick !

@pauljrobinson@mastodon.me.uk On the question of legality, it's not illegal or a criminal offence to break the Premier League rules but now the HMRC are becoming interested in how much tax Manchester City have paid (or not paid). Clearly, defrauding the HMRC is a criminal offence and illegal.

@pauljrobinson@mastodon.me.uk Yes. There are rules on how much a club can spend. City were fraudulently inflating their income with sham sponsorship deals for a period of nine years (at least). This enabled them to acquire top players for high transfer fees and salaries which enabled them to win trophies. That's why there are demands for the punishment to include voiding those trophies and potentially relegating them out of the Premier league.

@stefano@bsd.cafe @chrism@social.nfbsd.dev @justine@snac.smithies.me.uk

I'm pretty naive and tend to trust people until I have reason not do. It might be an unusual development setup but given the quality of what it has produced thus far, I'm happy. Very happy.

There's always risk if you go looking for it. My main concern is probably that @stefano@bsd.cafe appears to be a single point of failure and a potential bottleneck in this setup and let's not forget he has a day job too. However, the project was released just a fortnight ago and already a V2 release is imminent.

Also, the project could be forked if it ever stalled or Stefano walked away to open a pizza restaurant.

As for contributing, while it's not ideal, the source is available so theoretically one could submit a patch to Stefano and let the devs have the headache of merging into the development branch.

There was also risk on my previous hosted Mastodon instance. The admins may have got bored or the costs of hosting may have proved prohibitive, meaning the instance closed down (it's happened many times). I've been bitten before, that's one reason I got GoToSocial and Snac running yesterday. Firstly, to check the interoperability with LittleFedi and secondly as a lifeboat, just in case.

@greylinux@mylittlefedi.capella-ember.uk @stefano@bsd.cafe Great. Will do that now with my short lived test instance. Thanks.

Want to find other early adopters who are running #LittleFedi. Simply use 'Admin - Instances' and filter on 'LittleFedi'. This includes LittleFedi instances loosely connected (not just where you are following a user).

In praise of the fantastic 'Bubble' feature in #LittleFedi.

When I resided on a Mastodon UK instance, I used the 'Local' timeline to find other UK based users with similar interests. This was fine but there are other UK based Mastodon instances.

LittleFedi's Bubbles' feature lets me create a stream of multiple UK and tech focused instances which is brilliant for discovery.

@greylinux@mylittlefedi.capella-ember.uk Very timely. How does one 'self destruct' a LittleFedi instance. ? I got an error saying I could not delete the single remaining user (who was an Admin) buit would like to do it properly.

@jac@404brain.boo Yes. My use of 'non-technical' users is slightly tongue in cheek and self-deprecating.

I often used the term at work to lure clients (Oracle DBA's) into a false sense of security ('Oh god, he's just another pesky consultant') and then ambush them with deep, probing, technical questions. Never blag a blagger ! :-)

I suspect your technical skills are similar to mine. We can acquire a domain name, purchase some cheap VPS hosting, spin up a Linux instance, maintain, secure and update that server, install/remove Linux packages, follow instructions to install third party software packages and log bug reports and enhancement requests to (hopefully) provide useful feedback to the developers.

However, I wouldn't class my as a developer and can't troubleshoot network and firewall issues without resorting to Google.

So yes, we are 'technical' but just not wizards !

Still trying to use the tags.pub service for discovery using #LittleFedi.

I can't follow individual tags (stuck on 'Follow Requested') so tried to configure the relay as described in https://tags.pub/

$ littlefedi -config littlefedi.toml admin relay enable --actor "https://tags.pub/user/_____relay_____"
2026/10/12 13:39:25 INFO instance actor signing self-check passed keyID=https://yakshaving.social/users/yakshaving.social#main-key
Error: relay "https://tags.pub/user/_____relay_____" not found

Any ideas ? @evan@cosocial.ca @stefano@bsd.cafe
